Afghanistan, Behind the Image

If you are planning to visit a different country, I am pretty sure that you are going to exclude or you will not even dare to put Afghanistan on top of your list of ideal destinations in the world.  Afghanistan is one of the least developed countries and one of the world’s poorest due to the decades of war. Unfortunately, it seems that their Government is paying more attention to their military forces rather than focusing more on how to improve their declining economy. This made me realized that we are lucky enough that our country doesn’t experience the same thing. We may not have the most stable economy in the world but  we are endowed with natural resources , making us as one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world. On top of that, we are a democratic country and we have the power to fight for our rights.

I’m sure Afghanistan has so many things to offer as well. Have you heard about the well known “Khyber Pass?” It’s a legendary and historic mountain pass which served as a crossroad between Central and South Asia. How about “Jam Mineret?” It’s another prehistoric site that is well appreciated by most travelers. See? Afghanistan is indeed a wonderful place, however, just like one of those afghanistan quotes stated by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, an Iranian director, “Afghan society is very complex, and Afghanistan has a very complex culture. Part of the reason it has remained unknown is because of this complexity.” If we just take those wars and violence out from the picture, I’m sure the country will rapidly improve along with other successful countries in the middle east.

Aside from this highly potential tourism growth of this country, Afghanistan is endowed with rich mineral resources. The country has an extensive deposits of gold, copper, iron, natural gas and petroleum. However, this huge potential of massive economic growth is still under-explored. Only if the government is focusing more on this field and acquire and embrace those new technology. In fact, according to one of the agriculture quotes from Christopher Bond, a British Playwright, “Advances in technology will continue to reach far into every sector of our economy. Future job and economic growth in industry, defense, transportation, agriculture, health care, and life sciences is directly related to scientific advancement“.

Generally, Afghanistan is not as worst as what we thought. It is probably some sort of misinterpretation due to exaggerated media news that turned the country’s image  unappealingly to many. At some point , one of these John Harvey Kellogg‘s alienation quotes, stating that “Sometimes in the midst of worry, anxiety and hard work, it has been pretty hard to bear all these false reports going about the country – to see his friends alienated and being made to believe things that were absolutely false”, is very much applicable to the current condition of Afghanistan. Hopefully, everything will fall into place and Afghans will soon have their freedom from these all out war and I hope that the world will see its beauty behind their current image.
